• Tehran-Shomal Freeway project is to provide a safe and quick way to connect the northern and central parts of Iran, and easy way to be connected to the neighboring countries in the north.
• This project is a part of the North-South Freeway which is the shortest connecting route between Caspian Sea and Persian Gulf, and will play a key role in the transit of goods in the region.
Significant advantages of Freeway construction project:
• Making the route shorter than the current one (About 65 Kilometers)
• Decreasing the travelling time
• Providing a safer and quicker route in all four seasons
• Increasing the transportation capacity comparing with the existing one
• Decreasing the oil consumption
• Decreasing air pollution as a result of improved traffic flow
• Developing tourism and agricultural and processing industry
• Providing employment opportunities
Route and Speicification Of The Freeway:
• The freeway route starts at the interchange ramp of Shahid Hemmat and Azadegan highway, then passes through Sulaghan village, after that gradually passes through the mountainous area of Tochal area and then by passing the long Talon tunnel with 4870 meter length enters the northern slopes of Do Ab-e-Shahrestanak district.
• From then on, the route extends along the old Karaj-Chalus road and enters the Alborz tunnel with 6400 meter length in Pich-e-Sarhang and exits at Pol-e-Zangouleh. Then, it passes along the existing Karaj-Chalous road in Alborz altitudes to Chalus. Finally, it connects to Nowshahr-Chalus-Tonekabon beltway via an interchange ramp .

This freeway is located in three provinces of Tehran, Alborz and Mazandaran, and numerous environmental studies and watershed management plans have been implemented for the betterment of the project.
